European Congress on digital libraries
Delegates from more than 27 countries taking part in a September 20–21 meeting in Brussels, Belgium, came to the conclusion that the role of the librarian in Europe will be as a guide to internet resources. The European Congress on E-Inclusion also suggested that public libraries communicate to the public more about the added value they can offer….

Open access and Institutional Repositories

October 18-24, is Open Access Week

Many GAELIC members are using the opportunity to show case the Open Access movement.

EIFL partners and staff will participate in this global event to promote free, immediate, online access to research.  The July/August 2010 issue of EDUCAUSE Review is all about “open” – open content, open courses, open faculty, open technology…anything that’s open is up for analysis in this issue. Digitization Principles

Association of Research Libraries Board of Directors unanimously voted on July 26 to endorse a set of nine principles (PDF file) to guide vendor/publisher relations in large-scale digitization projects of special collections materials. They advise the ARL member libraries to refrain from signing future agreements with publishers or vendors, either individually or through consortia, that do not adhere to the principles.
