Keeping the GAELIC community informed

Structure & Objective

GAELIC is governed by a Board (GGB) that is represented by the heads of all member libraries and meets at least 3 times a year to discuss issues and developments.   See the list of our member libraries here.  The Chairperson is elected every two years and is voted from within the Board Members. There is also an Executive Committee where all major decisions are made. We are governed by a  Constitution and have many documents to support and advise us on good practice and process.

The current strategic plan focuses on 3 main objectives.  Each Objective is controlled by a Convener (member of the GGB) and an Operational Manager (individual elected by the Board from within the member staff) who is supported by a Team comprising 1 person from each of the GAELIC member libraries. These Teams ensure that the decision of the Board are implemented.

The 3 Objectives are as follows:

  • Objective 1  To promote optimal use of the Millennium system in the GAELIC member Libraries
  • Objective 2  To build capacity through identification and provision of training needs and services for optimal utilization of resources
  • Objective 3  To create a digitization initiative of African content
